Until it broke it was hardened glass
Unyielding cold and smooth
Denying passage while pointing the way
Never rattling or loose
When it broke the illusion was gone
No reflection standing in
The outside world, once safely out
Now showing every sin
I only saw the solidness
When really there was none
If I’d looked beyond the surface sheen
The deception would have undone
Shards on the floor – I see the sky
Unfettered by window glass
With bleeding hands I touch the shards
I know this pain will pass
